Israeli Army Says It Lost Drone Over Syria Due To ‘Technical Failure’

On September 22, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they had lost a drone over Syria territory as a result of a “technical failure”.

According to the IDF, the drone crashed during “routine operational activity”. An investigation into the incident has been launched.

Local sources in the southern Syrian governorate of al-Quneitra confirmed that an Israeli drone had crashed there without providing any further details. The type of the lost drone is still unclear.

Usually, the Israeli military operates small drones along the separation line with Syria, mainly the Elbit Skylark. The drone is launched by hand and has an operational range between 10 and 50 kilometers. It can be equipped with a daylight CCD camera or optional FLIR for night operations.

In August, a Skylark drone launched by the IDF crashed in al-Quneitra a result of a technical malfunction after it penetrated Syrian airspace up to 10 kilometers.

The IDF may be using small, cheap drones like the Skylark in on-way intelligence gathering missions over southern Syria. This would explain the repeated Israeli drone “incidents” over the region.

Technical failure = shot down.

skylark 2 has a service ceiling of only 4.5km, (claimed). Easy take down for quality manpad systems.

Idlib willl be liberated next week

Probably some EW issue?
