Return To Global Ocean: Russia Will Officially Establish Naval Base In Sudan

ILLUSTRATIVE IMAGE

For the first time since the collapse of the USSR, Russia is creating a naval base close to vital maritime supply lines.

The Russian government revealed on November 11 that Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin approved a draft agreement on creating a naval logistics base in Sudan and gave instructions to submit a proposal to the president on signing the document.

The draft deal was submitted by the Defense Ministry, approved by the Foreign Ministry, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Investigative Committee of Russia and preliminary agreed with the Sudanese side.

According to its text, quoted by Russian media, the Navy’s logistics facility in Sudan “meets the goals of maintaining peace and stability in the region, is defensive and is not aimed against other countries.”

The base can be used for carrying out repairs and replenishing supplies and for the crewmembers of Russian naval ships to have a rest. The logistics base is expected to embrace the coastal, water and mooring areas.

“The Sudanese side has the right to use the mooring area upon agreement with the authorized body of the Russian side,” the document reads. The text says that a maximum of four warships may stay at the naval logistics base, including “naval ships with the nuclear propulsion system on condition of observing nuclear and environmental safety norms.”

The military-technical and security cooperation between Russia and Sudan has significantly increased since 2017. The creation of the Russian naval base there is a logical step to develop this cooperation. It should be noted that the Russian military naval base in Syria’s Tartus also had the name of the ‘logistical facility’ for some time.

If this project is fully implemented, this will contribute to the rapid growth of the Russian influence in western Africa. Russian naval forces will also be able to increase their presence in the Red Sea and in the area between the Gulf of Aden and the Gulf of Oman. Both these areas are the core of the current maritime energy supply routes.

The naval facility will allow Russians to resupply their naval group in the region more effectively and increase the strength of their forces. For example, at least one Russian naval group regularly operates as a part of the anti-piracy mission near Somalia and in the Indian Ocean in general. For sure, the new base will also serve as a foothold of Russia in its standoff with NATO naval forces there.

The increased presence of the Russians in the Red Sea is also the factor that could impact the Saudi-Houthi conflict. If the Russian side opts to indirectly support the Iranian-Houthi coalition, the situation for the Saudi Kingdom will become even more complicated. Its operations to bloc and pressure the Houthi-controlled port of Hudaydah would become much less effective.

It is expected that the United States (regardless the administration in the White House) will try to prevent the Russian expansion in the region at any cost. For an active foreign policy of Russia, the creation of the naval facility in Sudan surpasses all public and clandestine actions in Libya in recent years. From the point of view of protecting the Russian national interests in the Global Ocean, this step is even more important than the creation of the permanent base in Syria.

The deal allows the Russian military to install air defense systems to protect the naval base. China is also constructing a military base in Djibouti.
All of this is a part of the new silk roads. Interesting move by Russia and China. These two countries are calling each other “strategic partners” . We are starting to see why.

John Brown

Yes this base helps the Russian navy,

but the min advantage is to be able to dominate this area with Russian and Chinese air defense layered systems like the S-300 S-400 , S-500 Tor pantisir etc. and hypersonic attack naval missiles.. The USA navy and naval air power will effectively be barred from the entire middle East. Ground based USSA and Israeli air power in the middle east will be crippled.

occupybacon

Sounds like chess mate.

occupybacon

China’s base in Djibuti is closer to the American base. That means they are closer strategic partners.

Lone Ranger

Smart move to have a forward base against the Americant pirate navy.
Good job Comrades.
CIA trolls and hasbarats will cry and rage ?

Laurent Parodi

A frigate from the black see fleet and a nuclear attack submarine from the Pacific fleet in the red sea will cool down some heads.

Lone Ranger

???

occupybacon

Russian distinguishing officers deserve an exotic place to sunbathe, after long military stage in Kamchatka.

Lone Ranger

They already have one in Sochi ?

Rhodium 10

and Crimea

occupybacon

That’s more for access to Africa than access to oceans.

Black Waters

Good, truly peace guarantors. Normal people should always prioritize commerce and development.

The U.S it’s a disgrace, the moment that they started attacking everyone with sanctions and blocking many nations from development.

Cromwell

Spot on,they lost their way as great Nation after WW2,its been downhill ever since, they have become more arrogant violent and deranged.

Tudor Miron

Did they “kept their way” when they were wiping indigenous civilization of America off the face of this planet? That was long before WW2.

occupybacon

Indeed, not like Russia trying to forbid Ukraine to free trade with EU :)

Scaathor

Still being a lying clown I see? Ukr has always been free to trade with the EU (Russia certainly does…) but the Eurotrash don’t actually want any of the ex-Soviet legacy junk that Ukr makes. Neither now does Russia… LOL

occupybacon

No, actually Russia threatened to sanction Ukraine if they sign free trade deal with EU, together with Moldova and Georgia, that made Yanukovich veto the trade deal and… That triggered Euromaidan. It’s called Euromaidan for a reason, you should have known that.

JIMI JAMES

Time proves it were the degenerate fascist cia/eu-epp/nwo/fascist pongos whom tried in vain to stop trades with russia, not the other way around as proof insomuch how putin trades towards europe along with thatr big fat pipe to germany,so no,you are just another soros hj specialist either way cia/fkd!

occupybacon

That fascist pig putler started the trade war, trying to stop UkrIne sign free trade agreement with EU so sanctions follow promptly. And are there to stay.

Scaathor

Putler?

LOL… thats frustration and crying rage leaking thru! Poor dumb schmuck bacon… can’t win, can’t handle the truth!!

occupybacon

Shush baby, nobody hears you. *whispers in your little ear with a sexy voice* Putlah..

occupybacon

Russia doesn’t have anything else but natural resources. 90% of Russian exports are natural resources. Name a Russian brand that I can see in supermarket.

Hind Abyad

Vodka?

occupybacon

No Russian among top 5 vodka brands. Maybe even top 10 but not sure.

Dick Von Dast'Ard

Nuclear-powered battlecruisers Pyotr Velikiy, Admiral Lazarev (refit/refurbishing?) and Nakhimov are very big ships. (827ft)
Project 941 guided missile cruiser submarines (proposed) are also very big submarines. (574ft)
If any of those ships berth up, then that is one very powerful floating embassy with a conventional and non conventional weaponry payload that can hit a 5,000km radius.

johnny rotten

From a rather interesting article by Andrew Metrick in October issue of the US Naval Institute Proceedings Russia’s new strike capabilities give its navy and, in particular, its submarine fleet a tremendous ability to influence the European military balance. The GIUK Gap will not provide a geographic crutch to help mitigate the threat, as long-range weapons allow Russian submarines to operate from the relative security of the Norwegian and Barents seas. For example, a submarine-launched cruise missile (SLCM) with a range of 1,000 miles would give the Russian Navy a potential patrol area of 100,000 square miles from which it could strike Bremerhaven while remaining reasonably secure.
But this is valid for any sea or ocean, and from the Horn of Africa up to and including the MENA.

Fantax

So now the next civil war will be in Sudan, I have not heard anything about Darfur for ages, soon the MSM will start talking again

Fog of War

This is wonderful, but Russia is still too Chicken shit to put missiles in Cuba or Venezuela while the US keeps moving its missiles closer to Russia’s borders.

JIMI JAMES

Not being chicken, chickens are you the ones who misuderstand emphathy, coward gayto pff!

Fog of War

Empathy in geopolitics ? You’re even dumber then I suspected. Holy crap you’re stupid.

HB_Norica

Just because Russia doesn’t have land based missiles in Cuba doesn’t mean they don’t have the the ability to strike the USA. In 1962 it meant something but today they have SLBM’s and air launched cruise missiles that do the same job without the exposure.

The issue with US missiles in Romania and Poland is they cut Russia’s reaction time by half. Having missiles in Cuba doesn’t give Russia a strategic advantage …. it just raised tensions and causes trigger fingers to itch.

Fog of War

Then cut ZioAmerica’s reaction time also. Basic logic.

HB_Norica

Assuming that no one really WANTS a nuclear war what is the logic behind giving your enemy less time to determine whether what they are seeing is a missile launch or a random blip caused by faulty equipment and launching a retaliatory strike that ends up destroying both of you? All that does is increase the chances you both get destroyed.

Second if Russia wants to hold the USA to the same time constraints as they are being held to why not just park a boomer off the coast instead of creating political tensions over land based missiles in Cuba?

Sure the world may label you a bitch for not responding in kind but the Americans will know and that’s what really counts. Even if the Americans know exactly where the boat is they can still get a shot off before being sunk which exactly the same strategic situation as is in Europe today with Aegis ashore in Poland and Romania.

Fog of War

” Assuming that no one really WANTS a nuclear war what is the logic behind giving your enemy less time to determine whether what they are seeing ”
Its called a bargaining chip, ” want more time to determine threats ? Then remove you missiles away from our borders, and we’ll do the same ” Once again , basic logic . You don’t negotiate out of a position of weakness.

Jens Holm

So funny…

Proud Hindu

Whats the use lol.Is putin waiting for sudan to shoot down its aircraft and then start business and partnership?Putin has made Russia a big joke.

JIMI JAMES

I take the word of the 9th dan christian orthodox than that of some inept fktatrd who marrys it’s dog, don’t insult intellect, creep!

ΠΑΡΜΕΝΙΩΝ

Wherever Russia builds a naval base … the “Heart of the Planet” is here … where the red circle with the dot is in the center.

https://prnt.sc/vhrwpd

verner

also note that the morons in washington dc as late as october 2020 removed sudan from the list of terror sponsoring countries, no doubt thinking that sudan will be a part of the saudi efforts to conquer Yemen and to put more pressure on Iran at the behest of the jews in palestine. guess the morons took something for granted which they should not have taken for granted.

verner

and, it’s no fun being a jew in palestine now that the russkies have secured a base in the back of the frontal attack direction for the jews in palestine and their bought lapdogs, saudi and uae and so on. once the evil group of dysfunctional criminals start anything towards Iran, bet your behind that the russkies will make an entré with whatever they deem necessary, missiles and so on and not even the dumb jews would dare to antagonize the russkies one way or the other. they are getting more de-fanged by the minute, i.a. in armenia
and elsewhere and if lebanon can stand up to the morons from washington dc, hezbollah will continue to run lebanon and threaten the jews incessantly and they will be at their wits’ end knowing they can’t start anything towards Iran however much they would like to do so. they are locked in or locked up. and note it’s some time since they dared to do anything in syria, which is telling us who put in his full sized boot
