On September 19, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) repelled an ISIS attack on its newly captured positions inside the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside, according to the SDF media center. US-backed forces destroyed two vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDS) during the clashes in the town.
After repelling the attack, the SDF continued its advance in the ISIS-held pocket and captured 20 positions in the vicinity of the towns of al-Shaddadah, al-Kasrah and Haij. The group’s media center said that 5 US-backed fighters and 25 members of ISIS were killed in the last 24 hours.
US-led coalition warplanes backed the SDF during the battles and carried out 6 airstrikes on positions and fortifications of the terrorist group, mainly in al-Shaddadah.
The SDF will likely impose control of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani in the upcoming hours. The next target of US-backed forces will be the town of al-Susah, which is located 20km south of Hajin.
