Videos Show Firefight Between Locals And U.S. Troops At Khirbat Amu

Donate

On February 12, angry locals engaged U.S. forces in a firefight in Khirbat Amu in northern al-Hasakah after U.S. troops had allegedly killed a 14-year old teenager in the town. The videos released by Syrian media allows to see the intense usage of light weapons.

In an official statement, the U.S.-led coalition confirmed that its forces engaged in clashes with “unknown individuals” in Khribat Amu. The coalition said that no injuries were sustained. However, it didn’t comment on the alleged killing of a local teenager.

“The situation was de-escalated and is under investigation, the coalition’s patrol returned to base,” Col. Myles B. Caggins III, a spokesman for the coalition, said in the statement.

The incident took place near a checkpoint of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA). Locals reportedly attempted to block U.S. forces which responded with live fire, allegedly killing the teenager. The army stood with the locals. However, it didn’t take part in the clashes.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said that U.S. forces had withdrawn from Khirbat Amu under the cover of US warplanes, which counducted three airstrikes. However, local sources said that there were no airstrikes, saying that U.S. forces used flash and smoke grenades to cover their retreat.

Pro-US sources already describe the locals as the ‘Syrian Army’:

A unit of the Russian Military Police was quickly dispatched to the incident area to de-escalate the situation. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were also connected by the Russian side to assist in the issue.

Several incidents between the locals and U.S. forces took place in the last few months. However, Khirbat Amu incident has been the most serious escalation so far. If U.S. forces were indeed responsible for the death of the local, the situation could escalate even further.

Pretty soon the Americunt arsehole losers will be greeted with more than rocks.

  • Drinas

Second video at 0.33 shows the presence of Russian forces as well. So.. US and Russian forces at the same place involved in a firefight.. Nice stuff

    • Jim Bim

A Russian patrol arrived later and deescalated the situation

    • gustavo

They arrived later at the end of the inssident.

      • Drinas

It is quite obvious that shots are fired with a Russian column about 200ft away from the US vehicles.. Just look at the video..

        • gustavo

Yes, but this happened at the end. The civilian responded in this way because of the USA shooting to the teenager. But, let us wait for the official investigation.

          • John Wallace

Official investigation , by who and what does that prove. Might as well make up the final report now , Civilians showering the US patrol in flowers and chocolate when a small unknown group attacked the US patrol killing a civilian but were chased off by the US returning fire into the air to protect the innocent civilians who love them.

        • Josiah Gaxx Isaboke

It helps to read the article…”The Russians rushed to deescalate the situation”…And my bet is there presence helped save lives because knowing Americans well, they are never shy of shooting civilians and call “collateral damage”

        • John Wallace

It is a bit hard to work out what is happening as one second civilians are firing at presumably the US forces then next second there are military men standing around in front of the vehicles talking to the unarmed civilians. Spliced out of sequence ?. The second video it appears as 3 or 4 civilians armed with AK’s firing at the ? US vehicles , what a waste of time that is . need RPG’s at least , and there is a Russian vehicle , (flag ) with military men standing around while the shooting is going on. so agreed it is confusing.

    • John Wallace

Doesn’t show Russian and US forces involved in a firefight. Someone is firing most likely into the air as no one , civilian or Russians are running or taking any notice at all then video stops so what happens then is anyones guess.

      • John Wallace

RT has same / similar footage and more on twitter showing at least 3 US vehicles being towed. Also one scene has US . Russian > Syrian and either locals or SDF or both . Who wants to be in the middle of that if someone gets carried away.

These comments being permitted, and digital troll squads roaming all over SF comments is why I’m not continuing my contributions. I love SF but I’m not going to contribute to any site, regardless of my affinity for it, that allows Imperial trolls to say things like the above or comment endlessly and tauntingly at posters here who have contributed large sums of money to support the SF mission. Pro Empire sites strike down even the barest criticism of U.S. or Israeli policy but here we have to put up with this. That’s SF’s choice but I’m not paying for it.

      • Jake321

But you fail to note those here calling for the genocide not only of Israel but Jews in general. You fail to note the overabundance of escapees from the Daily Stormer here and all the Putz Putin Trolls playing neo-Nazis for their Vodka ration and draft deferment. Are they more to your liking?

        • Ricky Miller

I’ve called out genocidal rhetoric against Israel before. I’ve said many times that I prefer security for everyone, including Israel. But that has to include justice and compensation for Palestinians who have been stolen from and imprisoned in their own lands. I am not for wiping out the state of Israel but I do believe that the state is untenable without a fair and broadly accepted peace agreement. It sure is untenable with Israel violating the territory and airspace of her neighbors. That can only lead to more weapons development and conflict over time, which isn’t good for anyone but especially a state like Israel which has no territorial strategic depth, not to mention a large and so far disgruntled Arab minority with a high fertility rate. But no, I do not support violence against people because they are Jews, That’s just evil and ridiculous.

          • Jake321

Well, you sure as hell made no mention of any of that in expressing your disfavor with this site. We all have our priorities and you clearly indicated yours by your sin of omission. Personally, I have said many times I follow this site to know my enemies and post in Roman as the Romans do. Just as a technical side. Syria and Lebanon are still officially at war with Israel so no violation. If they had a peace treaty as Egypt and Jordan do it might be different. And yes, Israel is geographically vulnerable. That is why they will always try to maintain a significant military lead and is more than enough justification for their couple of hundred mostly thermonuclear missiles. Oh, when you call for the same kind of treatment for the hundreds of millions of displaced people from past wars, maybe your expectation for the Palestinians would have a wee bit of weight. And if the Palestinians and their Arab enablers had accepted their own state as the Jews did some 75 years ago this all would not be a question. But after making wars and using violence to get it all and losing, you and they still think they should get what they rejected before the wars and violence. That’s NOT how the real world works. I too wish they had their own state as offered. I too wish they had accepted less than it all after each time they lost. And I sure hope they take the crumbs that are left while they still can since there wouldn’t be another offer, only another Nakba, especially since they support Islamist Iran and will side with them in the coming war. But they will get to see that unitary state most Palestinians call for. However, it will be Israel from the River to the Sea with a solid Jewish majority and a lot more Palestinians in Europe and Jordan.

          • <>

            Well said Jake!

      • Bru

I understand your repulsion, but on the other hand I personally find if interesting to see how some people (Israelis, Turks, supporters or members of PKK, ISIS, Al-Qaida…) do really think, it is telling a lot (and a shame to them but they see it in the opposite way). If it was all censored, then I wouldn’t be able to see and believe it.
As for financially support, I supported a lot with large amounts when things were very dire against Syria and the anti-Syrian propaganda and lies were extreme in our Western regimes. After things calmed down I had to stop (it was a lot of money). But if things become dire again, like Turkey strongly increasing its war against Syria, then I will probably feel the need to really support.

      • Jaime

Don’t you think it is better to know your enemies? Also in reading such revolting ideas from those who defend Israel and the US, people who are still doubtful become convinced of the evilness of those two nations and their allies.

      • goingbrokes

This is the best way to study how the enemy thinks – unless you can show a better one. They are laying it all out here, it’s priceless. Your comments will be missed if you stop. This is in fact one of the front lines. If SF doesn’t allow the enemy to shoot at you this just becomes a “safe zone” where everyone agrees. It’s good that it’s not that way. All the propaganda angles, the trolling, the psyops are here. We need to learn how it all actually works. We learn how to deal with that, it is in fact the only way.

Link to prove that claim. In just one encounter, the US blew away some one hundred Russian Little Green Men making believe they were just mercenaries. Try to keep up.

          • John Wallace

If you knew anything about that you would know that the US hit that group with everything they had and as they had no weapons or defences against air power and caught in the open they didn’t stand a chance. But less than half were killed so does that show how ineffective the US airforce really is. You really are just full of shit

          • Jake321

WOW, only half killed. What a Russian victory! Matters not how they were killed. The claim was that more Americans than Russians have been killed in Syria. That’s pure bull crap and you know it.

          • John Wallace

They weren’t regular Russian forces otherwise Russia would have resonded. It was a force made up with ” contractors ” and various local tribal groups who were led to believe that the SDF were going to hand over an oil field to them. perhaps they were but someone else decided they weren’t going to allow it to happen. No where was I talking about there being more Russians or Americans killed in Syria. The less than half being killed wasn’t about victory it was about how ineffective the constant bombing and strafing by the airforce was. Same thing happened in Afghanistan bombing and strafing the Taliban for days and unable to kill them all. That never enter my argument at all. Just facts about what really happened . You have a convoluted assesment of what is being said or is it twisting what has been said to reinforce your argument..

Seeing as Russia was already in Ukraine before your Pilgrims waded ashore in Cape Cod I am guessing that maybe it is someone else sticking their unwanted head into Ukraine. So, no, Russia has no claim on Ukraine and it sure had no right to annex Crimea or try to take back Eastern Ukraine.

          • John Wallace

Been to Crimea . No thought not. Ukraine has no history in Crimea. It is all Russian and Tartar . Where is Russia trying to take back Eastern Ukraine. The people of the Donbass and Lugansk wanted Russia to take them over like Crimea but Russia said no. Do you know what Lugansk was famous for before the US led coup in Kiev .. No guess not. What was Donetsk well known for …

Without the approval of Ukraine the Russian backed secession in Eastern Ukraine is just as illegal. And most all the countries in the world agree. These are illegal actions. But you and Putz Putin like Hitler’s nationalist model. He got away with it for awhile but it didn’t end well for him or the German People. The end of your RF won’t be the same. It will be more like that of your Glorious Russian Soviet Empire.

The Taliban before the American invasion had almost total control of the country apart from where the Lionof the North was holding them off. They were just as brutal with public torture beatings and killings of women and men who committed the slightest infraction against their extremist laws as the extremists in Syria. Listening to the radio or girls going to school brought about swift justice where everyone had to watch. About time the Yanks left Afghanistan but to allow these animals to take control once more is probably worse.

          • Jake321

And the US very quickly forced them out of power and has keep them out for a long time. It is a shame that we did not consolidate our victory and now will be be leaving. But mostly a tragedy for the Afghan People.

          • John Wallace

Ahmad Shah Massoud was the Northern Warlord who was holding the Taliban from complete control. He would have been unable too stop them from defeating his group. He gothis name from fighting the Russians . He was the one that was assasinated by a TV cameraman who had a sort of pistol hiddeninhis camera . He and the soundman were killed straight away. A few days later someone flew planes into big buildings in NY so there were no reports of his death , The US decided to go after Bin Laden who was a guest of Mullah Muhammad Omar who by Arab law refused to hand Bin Laden over without proof. The US invaded by joining up with Massouds group who they had had a relationship with during the Soviet invasion times. Together on horseback dressed as locals and with air support the forced the Taliban back to Kabul and Kandahar eventually out and back to the border areas of Pakistan where the Pashtuns were of the same tribe. The Taliban were incredibly brave fighters having firefights with several of NATO’s special forces and the total US airforce in fghanistan lasting days. Their downfall was fighting to the death. They learned to hit and run so they could fight another day which is why they are now stronger today than some years back . They fight with the religious belief they have God on their side plus with time they can not lose so will eventually win. How long before the Afhan army who also have very brave soldiers crumlble and the Taliban takeover again..

          • Jake321

Can’t you read? I agreed the US will be leaving just like the Russians left. Obviously, Russia couldn’t afford the lose but the US can.

          • John Wallace

Not sure how you can asses that the US can afford the loss unless you are talking in purely dollar terms money taken from infrastructure and welfare of the people. But it is of no real value as they just click on the computer to make more out of thin air never to be paid back. Billions wasted so that Cheney and Rumsfield amongst others could have a decent wine with their meals. There is the loss of face , the loss of credibility as a long term partner that won’t cut and run the loss of bases close too Iran. The cost of leaving all their equipment behind unless they pay Russia to allow them to cart it out through Russia. Russia being real friendly will do it for free , yeah right.. so leave it all behind./.Follow tha up with withdrawl from Iraq cutting off those in Syria so they will have to leave as well unless Trump goes and begs Erdogan for help.. Looks like it is starting to fall apart and the losses will be immeasurable.. Wonder if any business can afford it when their subsideries close at cost leading to massive losses. Ah but the US can afford it as it is only money printed on toilet paper ready to be flushed ..

          • Jake321

It is nice to have a currency so valued that even if printed on toilet paper it still is one of the top valued currencies in the world with interest rates and inflation near zero. Russia should be so lucky.

          • John Wallace

The only reason it has value is because it is the worlds reserve currency , for the moment , otherwise it would be no better than toilet paper. Being the RC allows it to be printed without backing which no other currency in the world is allowed to do.. Even so amasses debts and countries working to get away from the USD will make it worthless one day.. Good luck trying to live on toilet paper..

          • Jake321

As most always you arrogantly spout ignorance. Near no currency, reserve or not, has actual real asset backing, dodo. And no, the value of the US dollar is based more on the faith those with the most wealth and economic power in the world have in the US economy compared to other economies. You have it backwards. The US Dollar is the world’s primary currency because of just that faith. And a very long history that shows that faith justified. Oh, and one day most every thing will be worthless. Have more platitudes to spew?

          • Arch Bungle

Idiot. Look at the map. Russia got rid of a bunch of welfare states and retained all it’s destructive power and huge amounts of resources. The fall of the Soviet Welfare State was the best thing to ever happen to Russia.

          • Jake321

The Russian Soviet Empire went down the tubes when it had the second largest economy in the world. The Putz’s RF is already down to at best twelfth, just above Spain. Look on the bright side. When it falls, it won’t have as far to fall into bankruptcy and the dustbin of history. And China will do a way better and more efficient job of developing Siberia than the Russians seem capable of.

Alright kids. Enough venting off for me on this virtual platform. Back to real life.

  • Jake321

What it looks like from the articles on this site is that Turkey and Syria are hell bound on going to war with each other, while the Russians get hit in the middle. And the US feeds this from the sidelines with Israel going its merry way there killing Islamist Iranians and their Hezbollah lap puppies at will with impunity. Pass the popcorn.

    • rightiswrong rightiswrong

It looks more like the Russians, Syrian Arab Army, the SDF and the Syrian populace ALL hate the US troops, and combine together to get the fat b’stards out of town.

No doubt the US will leave, ask the people of Ho Chi Min city about US loyalty.

    • John Wallace

Looks like you are just churning out Troll shit because all your bum buddies aren’t here to churn out their troll shit. Really you just look totaly bereft of any intelligence at all. Sorry I should have typed that slowly so you could understand . Stupid …

  • Jim Bim

“At 10 a.m. the US patrol including six armoured Humvee vehicles deliberately entered the area controlled by the Syrian authorities”, the Syrian military source said. “The US troops opened fire, as a result 10-year-old Juma Suleiman Barre was killed”.
Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman Myles Caggins previously stated that US-led coalition troops opened fire on civilians, claiming they had to do it in self-defence.

Gi Joe just had to show off.

  • Rafik Chauhan

ITS GOOD FOR SYRIA BCUZ IT WILL MKE LOCALS MORE AGGRESSIVE TOWARDS US PRESENCE AND IT WILL MAKE US PATROL MORE LESS . IT MEANS SAA AND RUSSIA WILL HAVE CHANCE TO INCREASE THIER PRESENCE MORE . SDF WILL ALSO GET HIT FROM LOCALS IF THEY SIDE WITH US THUGS AND THIEF.

USA always provide safe and stable environment for Israel oppressors and Turkey Syrian people killer Erdogan to steal and loot Syrian oil and gas.

Those US flags on top of their stupid armored vehicles are so telling! A country’s flag signifies its national anthem:
“Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?”

  • The Syrians want the U.S. out of town by sundown !!!

Every time these clashes/battles happen; I wish Syria would hand deliver a letter to our soldiers at the location of the event, stating that they will be forcibly evicted from Syria real estate if they don’t comply soon.

VOTERS WANT ALL OF OUR U.S. SOLDIERS HOME NOW
NOT IN SYRIA / IRAQ / AFGHANISTAN
…bring home our military equipment too.

When Bernie Sanders wins the U.S. 2020 presidential election in November; he has stated that he would bring all of our troops home.
Let’s hope he is not lying to voters.

People who can bear arms can actually fight back when their rights or freedoms are abused or taken away. That’s why the left in US is so keen do disarm ordinary people and do away with the 2nd Amendment!

Kurdish news has a slightly different story,

“A convoy of the US-led anti-Islamic State coalition on Wednesday came under fire in a pro-Damascus village outside the northern Syrian city of Qamishli in a standoff that eventually included Russian soldiers from a nearby base and led to one Syrian death.

In video footage posted online, villagers and members of the pro-Syrian government National Defense Forces (NDF) at a checkpoint in Khirbat Amo can be seen attempting to block the patrol, which included US troops.

“After being fired upon by 5-10 militia members, US forces returned fire in self-defense and killed an adult male combatant,” Col. Myles Caggins, coalition spokesperson, told Kurdistan 24.

Caggins said in a public statement that the return fire came only after “a series of warnings and de-escalation attempts,” adding that “the situation was de-escalated and is under investigation. The Coalition patrol returned to the base.”

He later confirmed to Kurdistan 24 that no US soldiers had been significantly injured in the small arms attack, but that one “had a minor scratch while operating equipment. The Soldier is back at work.”

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), it is unclear whether the individual killed was a “civilian or a regime-backed militiaman.”

The Guardian reported, “At one point in the standoff, a Russian army convoy also arrived at the scene in an apparent attempt to mediate the rare confrontation involving US and Syrian fighters.” The Russian defense ministry later announced that “a conflict took place between US troops and the local population” and that the arrival of Russian troops at the scene had made it “possible to prevent further escalation of the conflict”.

Following the incident, locals saw US jets flying overhead in an apparent show of force.

“Their planes were in the sky and their tanks on the ground,” one taxi driver from the village complained during an interview with Kurdistan 24.

“What are they doing in this peaceful area which has 7-8 schools?” he asked. “Someone was shot in the neck. The people attacked the US forces, and the [Syrian] army did not allow them to do so.”

The village is inhabited by members of the Al-Ghanamah tribe, officially part of the Syrian government’s al-Tay tribal federation. There are around 20,000 members of the tribe settled around the suburbs of Qamishli, according to a Jamestown Foundation article written by Syria expert Nicholas Heras.
